Oakland’s Chinatown dates back to the arrival of Chinese immigrants in the 1850s, making it one of the oldest Chinatowns in North America. Today, Oakland’s Chinatown is considered a pan-Asian neighborhood reflecting Oakland's diverse Asian American community which includes Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Filipino, Japanese, Cambodian, Laotian, Mien, Thai, Samoan and others. Annual cultural events include Lunar New Year, a Dragon Boat Race and the Mid-Autumn Festival.
